It is a matter of great honor for me to represent The National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) which is the largest trauma hospital under a single roof in this region of the world. This prestigious organization was born in 1972 with the blessings of father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman & by a saint like philanthropist Dr. R. J. Garst as Rehabilitation Institute & Hospital for the Disabled (RIHD), which started operating in April 1978. The name of this institute was changed to National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in October 2002. The initial activities was directed to the care of freedom fighters, war wounded victims and general population of the country who needed orthopaedic care. Since its inception it has remained the center of excellence in the care of orthopaedics and trauma patients in our country. This 500 beded specialized tertiary hospital is run by skilled doctors, nurses and paramedics round the clock. NITOR has a 24 hour emergency trauma service, regular out patient service, indoor ward and day care operation service for the patients. To meet the ever increasing development and introduction of new technology in the field of orthopaedics NITOR has specialized units for Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy, Hand surgery, Spine surgery, Paediartric sugery & Deformity correction. A SIGN programme supported by the SIGN foundation, USA provides several implants free of cost to the patients. Our hospital takes pride in managing mass casualties in several national crises. We have a team of enthusiastic health professional who are ready to offer their service in times of disaster both home and abroad. In addition to the hospital services, NITOR is a crown jewel in the field of post-graduate studies. Diploma in Orthopaedics (D.Orth) & Masters of Surgery in Orthopaedics (M.S.Orth) course affiliated to the University of Dhaka was approved in October 1973 and is being conducted successful
