Preface

Being established in 2006 Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, Bogra has become an excellent center for patient care in a very short period of time. Patients come here to get a quality care which is clearly visible in statistics of health bulletin, 2016. Everyday about 970 patients visited outdoor and 50 surgeries are done round the clock on an average basis. Although the hospital is allotted with 500 seats, but about 814 patients remain admitted through out the year. Being a developing country we have many problems with limited resources. I think the stuff of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital had successfully handled the problems with available resources for which it received "Health Minister National Award 2015" . Next year there will be new challenges and hopefully these challenges will be overcome; just need timely adequate response from appropriate higher authority. Lastly it's a great pleasure and privilege for me to publish the health bulletin 2016. I believe this Annual Health Bulletin will be regarded as a mirror on the health situation of Bangladesh after being synchronized at the national level and a tool for evidence based decision -making in planning and prioritization of the health interventions.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
To establish Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital as a centre of excellence for patient care following actions may be taken in different time frame by the concerned authority: In Short -term : 1. To fulfill the vacant post particularly of nurses (20% vacant) and employee of grade 15-20 (26% vacant). 2. Strengthening of casualty department . 3. As most of the equipments of the hospital are old model and remain dysfunctional for variable period, these equipment's should be backed up and supported by a set of new and modern equipments for which a requisition has already been submitted to ministry. In intermediate -term : 1. Strengthening of Neurosurgery department. 2. Establishment of a Burn Unit. 3. To change the organogram of hospital to reduce patient -nurse ratio. 4. Gradual vertical extension of the hospitals in terms of bed number as well as department. In long -term : As almost all districts of North Bengal has a good communication with Bogra, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital can be planned to establish as central referral center of North Bengal. In peroration our expectation will be better health governance, equitable distribution of scarce health and logistic resources with our assurance will be working passionately as a team towards providing the best health service to the people of our jurisdiction.
