Preface
I am extremely happy to be able to publish 3rd edition online Local Health Bulletin of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Established in 1936 as an Institutional Hospital for British Indian troops in the holy land of Hajrat Shahjalal (Rh:) and Hazrat Shahparan (Rh:), it has passed through different stages of development. In 1948 it was upgraded from Institutional Hospital to a 200 bed Medical School Hospital, in 1962 from Medical School Hospital to Medical College Hospital. In 1978 the bed capacity was increased to 500 bed and in 1998 to 900 bed. Now with its limited space and manpower, this hospital is handling 1500 to 1800 indoor patients and 2500 to 3000 outdoor patients daily. With the progress of time, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital has also advanced. Now it has 24 departments with separate 'Outdoor Complex' and separate 'ICU & Casualty Wing', where from specialized services are being provided. It is worth mentioning that, apart from providing under-graduate training to medical and nursing students, this hospital is providing post-graduate training to doctors in 20 disciplines. I hope this bulletin will help interested people to acquaint themselves with this hospital without practically visiting it. I believe this is a great era, the 'Digital Era' of Bangladesh Health Services, which will continue to advance and enrich in the days to come. I sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the support and guidance we received from Directorate General of Health Services (MIS) in the publication of this bulletin.

Important information and necessary issues for Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital |
Inspite of shortage of manpower especially nurses, professors, doctors and others hospital staffs are working hard for the service of about 2500-3000 outdoor patients and 1700-1800 inpatient attending everyday in the hospital. It is the pride of hospital that all the modern machineries are working properly and the manpower behind the machines are putting their best effort with enthusiasm. Different NGO’s are working in the hospital with existing health personnel in the disciplines like Obs & Gynaecology and Pediatrics. All the staffs working in the hospital are well aware of their responsibilities and reputations. Ministry of Health and DGHS providing best possible support for better management of the patients. Good behavior and discipline amongst the staffs, cleanliness of the hospital premises and well equipped diagnostic facilities are our main focal point in rendering good services. We are publishing year book regularly which contains total activities of the hospital round the year.
Initiation of establishing computerized automation system in the hospital is a glorious recent step taken by the government towards modern charismatic digital vision in the field of health activities. Establishment of Nursing College, Dental unit in the Medical College and excellent architectural outdoor building reflects the keeping of promises by the govt. in uplifting health facilities. Inshaallah we will be able to start functioning in the new ICU & Casuality complex building very shortly. Basing on the performance of 2013, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital has won the Health Ministers National Championship award. This is indeed a great recognition of our sincere efforts.
