Preface

Yearly online publication of Statistical Health Bulletin by individual institutes all over Bangladesh is a legendary initiative by the MIS. As part of that program, Upazila Health Complex, Kapasia is proud to present the Local Health Bulletin 2016. This would be the fourth consecutive year of publication of Local Health Bulletin. This Bulletin contains all the health related information of 2015. The Health Bulletin remains an online publication for a non-specialized audience interested in development issues in the Kapasia Upazila region. While keeping its richness in information content, a user-friendly format has been maintained throughout incorporating numerous charts & tables to visualize statistical information of health data. The major sources of the Bulletin include: MDG-4 & MDG-5, OPD & emergency services, admissions & deaths of top 10 diseases , utilization of service existing equipment & a new big segment incorporated this year; designation versus personal grade wise human resource status,. I Hope information of this bulletin will be helpful for planning and bridging the gaps in health service and prioritize the targets. . I would like to draw attention of concerned higher officials to go through the information, focus on areas of interest & act accordingly for better delivery of health related service in future.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
1.Continuous and rigorous supervision is definitely making positive impact on overall health situation in Kapasia Upazila, especially at grass root level. Emphasis on regular and completeness of reporting is gradually making it possible. Online reporting even from community clinic level has now been made mandatory, which has greatly facilitated monitoring by Supervisors at Upazila level & above. in 2015 special emphasis was given in formation, training & regular meeting & activity of Community Groups(CG) & Community Support Groups(CSG) of 48 Community Clinics in Kapasia Upazila. These community group members are motivating their own people to seek more service at the community clinic and service has already improved in many community clinics. But we still have a long way to go. This effort is really worthwhile & is easily reproducible all over the country. 2.We are still unable to provide really effective Emergency Obstetric Care in this Upazila Health Complex Hospital because, though fully equipped ,it has not yet been enrolled as an EOC center. Besides, we did not & still do not have an anesthetist working in our 50 bedded Upazila Health Complex hospital, so the number of cesarean sections as well as major surgeries was not and still is not satisfactory at all till today. Kapasia upazila health complex faces a difficulty common to all Upazila Health Complexes surrounding cities like Dhaka & Gazipur- constultant anaesthetists despite being posted here, actually serve in some other higher facilities in Gazipur or Dhaka city usually by deputation or attachment posting. We hope concerned officials would look into this matter and help us out of this unique predicament & encourage us to provide better emergency obstetric care by enrolling Kapasia Health Complex as an EOC center.
