Preface

Nandail is one of the twelve upazillas of Mymensingh district and relatively larger one. Near about 437303 people reside here. It is situated about 48 kilometers away from district Head quarter and surrounded by Hossainpur and Tarail Upazilla of kishoreganj and Gafargaon and Ishwarganj upazilla of Mymensingh. So, It is an important place both geographically and in respect to population pattern. Not only the residents of this upazilla, rather patients from surrounding areas also rush here for treatment and admission. Besides, unlike many other places, this region is relatively poor and literacy rate is so low (about 45%). Thats why, providing quality health service here is a big challenge for the Government Health care workers. Despite all these, proper initiatives have been taken to reach and attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) related to health in due time and ensure a satisfactory level health care.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
Year 2015 was relatively a good year for Nandail Upazila Health Complex in respect of health service provided to the patients and general population. Though there were a number of limitations which made this task a tough one. The number of medical officers and consultants were adequate and all of them tried their best to serve as best as possible. But providing health facilities is a holistic approach and doctors are mere a small part of it. So increasing the number of doctors will never be sufficient to succeed in this regard. There are a number of limitations in Nandail which need early intervention. Firstly though it is a 50 bed hospital only 9 nurses are posted here and among them 4 are on deputation.It is an unimaginable task to manage a 50 bed hospital with only 5 nurses. Also, though Nandail is a regarded as an EOC centre, no Anaesthetist is posted here. So it is of utmost necessary task to fill up that post so Nandail Health complex can resume providing emergency obstetrical care to pregnant mothers. There is no permanent sweeper, so cleanliness becomes an issue sometimes. There is also shortage of MLSS. Though the number of doctors are adequate, the condition of their living quarters are very poor and are in need of urgent re-modification. Providing uninterrupted Power supply is another issue to check for. Among the 37 community clinics, 33 are in need of quick repair. Some Rural dispensaries are in terrible shape and needs rapid intervention. Number of human resources in the RDs are also very short which needs to be taken care of in order to ensure the effectiveness of the holistic Health care delivery system of Nandail. Beyond all these limitations, all the personnel of Nandail Health Complex is working heart and soul to ensure better health and a better life for its inhabitants.
