Preface

I am very happy to hear that health Bulletin 2016 of NIKDU is going to be published. NIKDU is the only specialized tertiary care hospital in Bangladesh dedicated for treatment of all types of kidney patients. Number of kidney patients are increasing rapidly in our country. Acute and chronic kidney diseases, Renal stone diseases, Obstructive uropathy and genito-urinary malignancies are the major diseases managed in this institute. The aim of this Institute is to provide education, research & treatment facilities for kidney diseases. All forms of renal replacement therapy including kidney transplantation is available here. We have done a number of CAPD and kidney transplantations in this year, More than 95% of stone diseases and G.U -maligancy are treated by minimally invasive procedures. Proper emphasis is given on research programs for prevention, early detecioThousands of n and treatment of kidney diseases. Post-graduate courses like MD (Nephrology), MS (Urology) have been started since January 2005..NIKDU has been included in residency program for MD (Nephrology and pediatric Nephrology) and MS (Urology) under BSMMU. This institute is conducting a number of community based research works for early detection and prevention of kidney diseases in collaboration with different national and international organizations. This year we are going to set a state of the art dialysis center with 70 HD machines in public private partnership(PPP) project. We have started a joint venture program with IEDCR to detect antibiotic resistance in UTI.Pediatric Kidney patients -both medical & surgical are getting appropriate treatments in NIKDU with nominal cost. This 150-beded hospital needs to be expanded as early as possible to meet the growing demand of kidney patients. Finally I would like to congratulate the initiator of the health bulletin software for setting us one step ahead toward Digital Bangladesh. Our aim is to provide the best services to all kidney & urological patients.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
we left no stone unturned to deliver our sincere efforts for the patients of kidney diseases last year. Services may be improved if the vacant posts are filled up and necessary equipments are supplied properly. At present only 150 beds in this hospital are not enough to serve the urology & nephrology patients of the country having huge population. In near future hospital will be expanded to 500 beds. For kidney failure patients expansion of dialysis facilities including both CAPD & Hemodialysis is our main target. With the improvement of socio economic condition & medical facilities ARF due to diarrhea disease is becoming less common. On the other hand multi organ failure due to RTA, often develop ARF who are better managed by continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Establishment of CRRT with expansion of ICU for seriously ill patient is demand of time. For the treatment of critically ill renal failure patients ICU facilities are being established in addition to dialysis and renal transplantation. We have an intention to start facilities for plasma-pheresis very soon. we are regularly doing live related kidney transplantation. To overcome organ scarcities we are planning to start deceased kidney transplant program. Finally I am very happy to write this health bulletin of 2014 because this document will help us to compare our progress in upcoming years. This is very useful document and will help the concerned persons to understand health services in the field of kidney diseases. We are looking for a better future.
