Preface

The bulletin is published to represent the National Center for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Disease (NCCRF&HD) situated at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The institute has been providing remarkable services since its establishment in 1988 by Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA). This hospital gives an outpatient service which includes diagnosis, investigation and treatment of various patients suffering from Rheumatic Fever (RF), Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and many Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD etc. The staff pattern is composed of physicians (Cardiologists, Pediatricians, Microbiologists, Medical Officers and Clinical Pathologists) supported by well trained nurses, laboratory technologists and other health workers. The institute comprises a well equipped laboratory and cardiology department which provides quick service at affordable rates for patients of different socio-economic levels. The hospital also organizes various training and surveillance programs to different districts and remote upazilla level doctors, technologists and health personnel. So that they can create awareness, diagnose and treat general population at root level and keep these diseases under control. Thus help the country to reduce the burden of morbidity and mortality to some extent. I hope the knowledge provided in this bulletin will assist the government to make a plan for future development in the health sector of Bangladesh.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
Important information and necessary issues for National Center for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Disease I would like to inform you that the incidence/prevalence is decreasing gradually with our efficient and effective health care which includes awareness program of population (by leaflets, brochures, TV & Radio) training of health personnel and surveillance. The hospital gives treatment to new patients and also follow up all the registered cases by its expert team. The hospital also gives special attention to the epidemiological and preventive aspects of RF, RHD and various NCDs, through joint collaboration with WHO under the guidance of Line Director, NCDC, Director General of Health Service.The administrative part of the institute is highly disciplined and maintains a good chain of command under the strict supervision of the director. Future plans: Extension of patient service throughout the country by the trained health professional. Conduction of training and surveys on non-communicable diseases (Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, lung disease).
