The bulletin is published to represent the National Center for Control of Rheumatic Fever and Heart Disease (NCCRF&HD) situated at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The institute has been providing remarkable services since its establishment in 1988 by Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA). This hospital gives an outpatient service which includes diagnosis, investigation and treatment of various patients suffering from Rheumatic Fever (RF), Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) and many Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD etc. The staff pattern is composed of physicians (Cardiologists, Pediatricians, Microbiologists, Medical Officers and Clinical Pathologists) supported by well trained nurses, laboratory technologists and other health workers. The institute comprises a well equipped laboratory and cardiology department which provides quick service at affordable rates for patients of different socio-economic levels. The hospital also organizes various training and surveillance programs to different districts and remote upazilla level doctors, technologists and health personnel. So that they can create awareness, diagnose and treat general population at root level and keep these diseases under control. Thus help the country to reduce the burden of morbidity and mortality to some extent.
I hope the knowledge provided in this bulletin will assist the government to make a plan for future development in the health sector of Bangladesh.
