Preface

Dhaka Medical College Hospital was established as a 250 bedded general hospital in 1946. British Major W J Virgin was the first Superintendent of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Since then Dhaka Medical College hospital is the pioneer in the undergraduate medical education and largest service providing hospital in this country. Subsequently It has been converted into 800, 1150, 1400, 1800 and at present it is 2600 bedded tertiary level hospital. Out of this 300 beds are for Burn Unit. Every day all type of patients from different corners of Bangladesh are reported to this hospital to get better management. We have almost all the speciality/sub-speciality of Medical science in this hospital. Most of the modern investigation-facilities are also available here. We want to mention some special criteria of this hospital. Such as: a) We never refuse any patient for admission. b) We provide almost all medicines and M S R from this hospital. c) Emergency operation is going on round the clock in this hospital. d) All investigation facilities are available 24 hours. e) This hospital have unique team to handle Mass causality in any disaster. I would like to congratulate MIS, DGHS for introducing the Health Bulletin software for setting us one step ahead towards achieving the goal of Digital Bangladesh.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
Important information and necessary issues for Dhaka Medical College Hospital I would like to address some of the important issues which if solved will help us to achieve better results in terms of patients care: 1. Shortage of manpower. Number of vacant post of class-III and Class-IV and Senior staff Nurses are to be filled up as soon as possible. 2. Nurse Patient ratio should be improved.3. Installation of modern equipments. 4. Expansion has been made in the following i) D M C H Phase-II ii) Bone Marrow Transplant Unit iii) National Fistula Centre. iv) New Palliative ward,Geriatric ward,H D U, Maxilla-facial Surgery ward, Infertility unit & Gynae oncology unit have been established. 5. Plan for increasing additional 24 beds for ICU and H D U. 6. Recently evening shift of routine OT of some departments have been started like Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, E N T. 7. Four emergency OT will be established very soon. 8.Honorable Prime Minister has declared to establish a multi-storried international standard hospital with modern felicities in place of old building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Finally I am very glad to publish this Health Bulletin 2016. All activities and achievement`s are highly encouraging. Recently all the staffs and doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital are encouraged to receive "Health Minister National Award-2015" from the Honorable Health and Family Welfare Minister, securing the top position among the top five performing tertiary hospitals. We are relentlessly trying to improve upon the standard and service facilities for the patients of our hospital. Thank you everybody for your patience hearing. Allah Hafez.
