Preface

I take the pleasure to publish online Local Health Bulletin of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital (SSMCMH) Mitford road, Dhaka. Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital is the oldest hospital in the country which was established in 1st May 1858 and started its function at Mitford Medical School, Dhaka with only 32 patients. In course of time it has been upgraded to six hundred bedded tertiary level hospital. Initially there were only two disciplines e.g. Medicine & Surgery. At present it has got 31 departments including CCU, ICU and NICU facilities. Presently Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital is providing health care services to a large number of patients who are coming from various part of the country specially from old Dhaka & southern districts of Bangladesh. I am grateful to MOH&FW and DGHS for their continuous support and co-operation in providing health care services to the distressed people of the country. I would like to give thanks to all concerned who has made their contribution to publish this health bulletin-2016. I believe this is the beginning of a new era, the "Digital Era" of Bangladesh health services, which will continue to advance and enrich in the days to come.

Important information and necessary issues you want to raise
Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital was established in 1st May 1858. It was the 2nd hospital in the then Indo-Pak subcontinent which provides modern medical treatment facilities in that time. It started its function with only 32 patients with two departments eg medicine and surgery. In course of time it has been upgraded to 900 bedded tertiary level hospital. Now it has got 31 departments with CCU, ICU, PICU and NICU facilities. Opening of cardiac surgery department is also under process. Specialists of different departments are treating patients regularly. Securities of patients and different departments of the hospital are well covered by 64 CC cameras. Our average daily outdoor patients is 2200 & bed occupancy rate 131%. We have got acute crisis of accommodation in the hospital. To solve the accommodation problem an extension and up-gradation programme of the hospital is under active consideration of the present government. Another 16 storied building in place of our old medicine building which has been condemned in 2009 is also under process. All these achievements are of recent past with the active support of the DG Health and ministry of health and family welfare.
